WHAT MAKES FOR A DIVIDE MAKES FOR A DEBATE

Now that the elections are over and we have chosen our leader there is an interesting discussion to be had. The numbers coming in on election night were so tight it was nearly impossible to tell who was going to win. At one point Romney held a comfortable lead in electoral votes but it was early enough to where Obama could still and would eventually pass him. The end result was a commanding electoral lead for Obama. Then there is the popular vote which for a long time was in Romney's side.

It is clearly understood that the popular vote does not determine the winner of the election. The popular vote does register a pulse in the American landscape and as of yesterday Obama only had a 1.7% lead over Romney. The interesting question now is what did America really want on election night? Truthfully their was no overwhelming winner and a lot of questions were raised.

Yes Obama won almost every state he won last time with the exception of two states that Romney recovered for the Republican party. If you study the margin of victory that Obama had in some of those states it was almost non existent and the difference was made by the size of counties voting. Traditionally democratic counties voted as such and gave Obama a greater boost to carry the states he carried. So once more when you look at the map it's fair to question if there was a clear and overwhelming winner according to what we want as a nation.

It's also fair to ask if we are being overly influenced by negative attack adds that seem to run almost non stop for a specific period of time. I would love to see how the election would turn out if instead candidates were left to expose their various points in televised town hall style meetings where they could in turn talk to the people. Yes the candidates do that already and they do state what they feel is wrong but in this case it would not be an add but rather an exposure in which they could establish a specific point and try to carry it consistently. I know that won't happen but it would be no less interesting. How did FDR campaign after all? The FDR fireside chats were like destination radio for depression era America.

America is divided but the truth is that if you take a sampling of people and question them about policy a good percentage will not know the difference between a Romney proposition or an Obama proposition. This is not a statement that chastises either as being overly liberal or conservative but rather exposes the fact that not many people can really recite a budget proposal or medical reform proposal. The truth is that the venom that comes out of people and what divides the country comes from misunderstanding, assumption and prejudice in some ways.

11/06/2012

Last night America spoke once more and it chose the leader of not only the US but also the free world. President Obama will move on for another four years and will attempt to make history beyond the history he has made thus far. This bit I am writing does not focus on President Obama, Mitt Romney, or any political affiliations. I want to focus on one specific symbol of what makes democracy a true wonder.

Last night as the results came in they were reflecting on  the Empire State building until Obama won and then the top of the building turned blue. That particular turn became an instant symbol of the perennial hope that America has for progress. I am not saying it was Hope because of Obama but the hope of a population coming together and believing in the principles of democracy that make this country the greatest bastion of progress.

People sit and criticize the US but we have the power to make that difference and it is a responsibility that we need to cherish in multiple respects. It was a great feeling to see the level of jubilation at the people's ability to chose the person they wanted wether or not that person was triumphant. It was great to once again see the greatness of democracy in action.

LET THEM ALL GO TO HELL EXCEPT CAVE 76

So Tuesday is the big day and everyone is making the dash for those last minute votes. Every member of team Obama is canvassing the undecided part of the populous. Recently I was the target of a canvas fella that looked like a deer in the headlights. Everyone from the ramrod, tea party, GOP is making that glorious run in order to illustrate Mitt's "Magic Math Method."

I want to throw a wild card out there and see who's with it. I would like to propose a massive write in movement for an unlikely candidate. I am sure that this will not work out but if I stick with it for the next four years it may pick up steam. I say let's write in The 2000 Year Old Man. Yes I am aware that this is a fictional character but come on people.

The 2000 Year Old Man comes from a society where all people lived in caves. If we all lived in caves imagine how much we would save on utilities. I also think that we can all create our own anthems much like the 2000 Year Old Man's anthem. Let them all go to hell people, I think it's brilliant to start this movement.

So for the good of the nation let us say "Let them all go to hell except for the 2000 Year Old Man."

WHO WINS? WHO CARES?

On November 6th 2012 the country will make a pilgrimage of sorts to the polls. More than likely this will be the closest election since JFK defeated Richard Nixon in 1960 by a margin of 120,000 votes. The difference is that now I seriously doubt that the level of regard for the winner and feeling of true hope will be there.

It doesn't matter if Obama gets re elected or Romney wins because the fact remains that change will not occur over night. Romney will not be able to just shut down PBS and push himself forward because while Republicans have one house Democrats have another. I seriously doubt that the next 4 years will bring about significant change.

For Romney to have a successful time implementing policy he will have to do a complete overhaul of measures going back to Bush and not just Obama. For Obama to have a better second term he will have to adjust a lot domestically in order to have any success. The truth is that economy is cyclical and only changes as the habits of all consumers change. The economy is affected by issues such as military spending but truthfully Military spending only increases during periods of serious conflict and those periods only come around every ten to fifteen years on a serious world scale.

More than likely there will be issues with the voting especially on battleground states that are likely to swing either way. In the end there will be one man at the helm starting with promise, and hope for change but in the end it will be a number of factors that will make that man a significant historical figure. Who will win? Who really cares?

THE HOME STRETCH

So we are now officially in the home stretch of the election. In a matter of days we will elect a new POTUS. I know I should use the whole word but POTUS just sounds so awesome. So what does this really mean?

To an uneducated mass it means very little and to pseudo intelligent self styled die hards it means that their view of what's best for the country is going to materialize. To a few it means that a change in the cyclical world and domestic economy may actually occur. The next few days are going to be a whirlwind of differing opinions, hurt feelings, and major misunderstandings.

Pro Obama teams will collide with members of Team Romney and news outlets will make ratings come to life with election coverage and an eventual retrospective of the last four years. One political party will likely go into a massive search for its next superstar while the other will find itself bathing in the glory of what has become the biggest trophy in the country. Every minor, moderate and large political booster organization will then focus on pushing their respective agendas and moving forward with a NO MORE 4 plan.

Every home stretch means something different for the country, the world and every individual breathing. Let's all remember to do our part as we too can make real change.

TOP 10 REASONS WHY EVEN AN ARDENT DEMOCRAT SHOULD NEVER HOPE FOR A JOE BIDEN PRESIDENCY

While the possibility of Joe Biden running for president seems remote and premature at best I have thought of a few reasons why Biden should never consider it. I like Biden I think he is the kind of person that would be useful in a bar fight. Biden has the essence of a regular guy that can get along just fine with just about anyone. I do feel that there is something inside his head that will burst should he ever chose to run and somehow win an election as President. In an effort to illustrate what I mean I have carefully crafted a top ten that will serve as food for thought.

TOP TEN REASONS WHY JOE BIDEN SHOULD NEVER BE PRESIDENT

  1.  He will put together a cabinet comprised of retired and semi active MMA legends.
  2. He will challenge Hugo Chavez to a cage match with the winner winning a supply of oil, spam and reese's pieces for a year in an effort t boost the economy of the winning country.
  3. He is from Scranton which means he will fight anyone.
  4. If any legislation he attempts to pass through congress is met with resistance he will take the responsible parties and grease them up and have them play naked twister in the middle of the Washington Monument until a winner emerges like in the days of Old Rome.
  5. He will have the CIA capture and hide Donald Trump and without Donald we would not have the joy of prolonged stupidity from a press whore.
  6. He will propose a big personalized bomb called the Biden suppository to "shove up our enemy's asses." The bomb will use solar energy, Scranton steel and lot's of love.
  7. He will more than likely have Ryan Seacrest produce a reality series called " US PIMP POTUS."
  8. Biden will extend aid to Vatican City so they may finally create an elite army known as "Biden's Holy Rollers."
  9. Biden's wife will become the replacement of Randy Jackson in the soon to be syndicated and promptly forgotten "American Idol."
  10. Biden will likely attempt to get the Salahis to reconcile and celebrate the second wedding in the middle of a state dinner.

Donald Trump SHUT THE FUCK UP

I used to like Donald Trump when I was a kid. For some reason his name on buildings was just cool and he was a definite pimp. I thought that his having attended NYMA was cool seeing as how my step father attended that school as well. I remember thinking that Trump Airlines was one of the coolest airlines operating in the late 80's and early 90's. I had the Trump board game as a kid  in 1989. So why do I hate his guts now?

I think it's a combination of his loud, brash and ridiculous demeanor and the fact that he will not stick to what he does best. I have to give Trump credit because like him or not he got himself out of a terrible financial crunch around 1992/1993. I will say he is a pretty admirable businessman who that took an existing fortune and turned it into a brand over a 35 year period. I still think that he needs to stick to that instead of trying to meddle in the country's affairs.

Some people are born politicians but Trump is a born businessman/asshole/bully. Trump has no interest in the well being of others he only cares about his name being in the headlines. A day without any sort of press for this guy is like a day without oxygen. I am sure his big announcement is the whole birth certificate thing which is really just getting old. Give it up Trump, the White House will never be another resort or spa, Mar A Lago was more than enough.

WHY GOING GREEN SHOULD NOT BE A TREND

Lately and by lately I mean for about five years I have been hearing "Go Green." I love the commercials and soul driven pleas for the environment. I agree that we should all do our part to help the planet and that in almost every single way the planet's ultimate survival starts with us. If we go back and look at facts about the environment the ultimate revelation will show that "Going Green" is nothing more than an effort at following a celebrity driven trend. Let's look at some facts from www.thinkquest.org:

    • If just 25% of U.S. families used 10 fewer plastic bags a month, we would save over 2.5 BILLION bags a year.
    • On the average, the 140 million cars in America are estimated to travel almost 4 billion miles in a day, and according to the Department of Transportation, they use over 200 million gallons of gasoline doing it.
    • Every year we throw away 24 million tons of leaves and grass. Leaves alone account for 75% of our solid waste in the fall.
    • Over 100 pesticide ingredients are suspected to cause birth defects, cancer, and gene mutations.
    • Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil.
    • About 1% of U.S. landfill space is full of disposable diapers, which take 500 years to decompose.
    • Energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate a TV set for 3 hours, and is the equivalent to half a can of gasoline.
    • Glass produced from recycled glass instead of raw materials reduces related air pollution by 20%, and water pollution by 50%.
    • Americans use 50 million tons of paper annually -- consuming more than 850 million trees.
    • Homeowners use up to 10 times more toxic chemicals per acre than farmers.
    • By turning down your central heating thermostat one degree, fuel consumption is cut by as much as 10%.
    • Insulating your attic reduces the amount of energy loss in most houses by up to 20%.
    • Enough glass was thrown away in 1990 to fill the Twin Towers (1,350 feet high) of New York's World Trade Center every two weeks.
    • One ton of carbon dioxide that is released in the air can be prevented by replacing every 75 watt light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs.
    • Many banks lent large sums of money to developing nations. In order to pay those debts plus interest many nations have turned to the mining of their natural resources as a source of financial aid.
    • Every day 40,000 children die from preventable diseases.
    • The public transportation that we have is a wreck. The U.S. continues to promote and invest in private car travel rather than public transportation.
    • The human population of the world is expected to be nearly tripled by the year 2100.
    • A three percent annual growth rate will result in the doubling of consumption and production of food and other products in 25 short years.  The amount of motor vehicles that are expected to be operated will increase 15 million a year until at least 2010.
    • The world's per capita grain production has been on the downfall since 1985 despite the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
    • Already a train system has been developed (back in 1987) which is based on magnetic levitation and causes minimal pollution. These versions of a train are already in use in several countries.
    • Fibre optics, made of glass, are being used to replace copper cables throughout the world.
    • The uncontrolled fishing that is allowed has reduced the amount of commercial species. Some species, up to one-tenth of their original population.
    • Every day 50 to 100 species of plants and animals become extinct as their habitat and human influences destroy them.
Okay so I have a question: If a guy with a hat and silly field clothes said that would it be as impacting as if Bono said it? The answer is a resounding NO. We are following the lead of others because now it's cool to care. Instead of waiting for others to say "Let's save the planet" how about taking action such as recycling on a consistent basis and taking steps to lessen the consumption of resources. Don't wait until it's cool to do something and act when it's already too late.

Mitt Romney is a BITCH

Okay so now that I have managed to capture your attention let me elaborate. I am not much into politics and I never have been because the truth is that to me all politicians are a bunch of bitches. I think that democrats and republicans are slaves to special interest.

I am bothered by Romney because truthfully the guy is about charismatic as testicular cancer. The pros to Mitt are........ okay then we will get back to that. I think Romney not only lacks real depth but he also  lacks abilities in areas like foreign policy. Every die hard republican will say that Romney has the ability to lead but I think before every sheep decides to drink the serum they need to realize who the hell Mitt is in politics.

Mitt lost a senatorial election to Ted Kennedy by well over 17 points in 1995. Romney also served a single term as governor of Massachusetts from 03' to 07' so that sums up his experience. I will say that his term was successful in terms of eliminating a projected deficit that was estimated in the billions. I still think Romney is a bitch.

At the end of the day Romney is a nightmare in terms of foreign policy as proven by his gaffe in London among other things. I am neither a republican or a democrat but hey what ever may the best bitch win!
