FUCK DR. OZ........HARD

I have no respect for Dr. Oz and I never will. I'm not a Dr. but I am the son of a Physician that was the very embodiment of the Hippocratic oath. As a child I remember my father looking upon diet foods and crash weight loss products in a less than favorable manner. This idiot recommends every available product that's willing to pay him a hefty fee for valuable real estate in his show. He was grilled on the floor of congress and basically engaged in self contradictory statements and made himself look like a fool. Fuck you Oz you are not the wizard you want people to think you are.

If you want advice go to a Doctor that's willing to tell you the good and the bad in several areas. Stay away from the Physician featured in  The Canterbury Tales.

COMICS ON TV

I recently read that Agents of SHIELD is steadily losing viewers which brings to mind something I've always thought, extremes with comic book stories are not very good in television. When Batman came out in 1966 it was a lot of camp and not too much substance. That series worked because back in those days television was not a charged medium. The Superman series starring George Reeves was geared toward kids and it had been on air in the 1950's.

Superman was highly predictable and did not have much depth since it only had a 30 minute timespan in which to tell a full story. If you fast forward to the 70's you have shows like Shazam, Wonder Woman, and the ill fated Justice League, series.

All of these shows failed to get long runs out of the gate because by the 70's there were more shows chose from and comic books were not really as marketable as before. With films such as Star Wars it seemed like comic books would be doomed. Yes Superman was released in 1978 and it was a huge box office hit but beyond that it seemed like the genre did not really have a life in the small screen.

Fast forward to the early 90's and it was more of the same with failed attempts in shows such as the Flash, and Justice League. It wasn't until Smallville that there was a real success with heroes. Now we look at SHIELD and see what's wrong.

People expect all out action and special effects sometimes and SHIELD has not gone that route. SHIELD has taken to slowly telling a story that relies on depth mixed with action. A show like Smallville began to step away from the soap opera in order to bring in more comic book aspects and while that worked, it took a little bit of wind from the shows sails. As far as SHIELD goes there's a possibility that it can nail the right balance if given a chance. People should not view it as just another comic book show. Perhaps the show is lagging because it only has one so far compelling character in terms of Agent Coulson.

I hope the show stays on the air because I think it's a great show.

IF IT ISN'T IN PERSPECTIVE YET, LET'S TAKE IT THERE

I once heard a mind blowing stat that by the end of my high school years I would have watched close to 17,000 hours of television. To me that stat was a clear example that life was somewhat trivial. I thought " What the fuck man?" I was 17 when I heard this and honestly I had no clue.

What I have realizing  is that TV has an incredible amount of power, the power to change life as we know it and society as we see it. Let's put it into a serious perspective here. When FDR died it was a couple of days before the country was completely aware of that fact. When JFK was assassinated it was around in the same day.

Television the medium that gave us Watergate and the eventual fall of a president. Yes, today television gives us a lot of shit that's come around as the result of praise lavished upon the mediocre. Television began the quest of making the world a smaller place, social media has made it an art, but television started it. To put it in perspective, what was once an invention that served as a form of entertainment is today the tool that brought the world together.

It's television that gives us a little to talk about in the water cooler, something to argue about with politics, and the things that bring us together.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

So I have seen two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I have to say I dig it. I think that the formula for a comic based series is really there. With the long run of Smallville and the apparent good reception of Arrow it seems like there's a new age for comic book stories in television. It doesn't help when people like Jim Steranko, the Warhol of Marvel, say that the stories are weak. Comic books have a broad base of material to chose from.

Marvel has a lot that they can incorporate but it does help to create certain characters, like they did with Firestar in the 1980 Spiderman and his Amazing Friends cartoon. I love the fact that they brought in Samuel L. Jackson and that they use foreshadowing as a tool to broaden interest. It may be a long time before they decide to hype up interest by attempting to bring in faces such as Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo for cameos.

I think the show deserves a chance because honestly it's one of the few good shows on TV, where entertaining the audience with a plausible continuing story is important.

SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THE NIGHTMARE

If you've been keeping up with me, you know I hate Honey Boo Boo. I think that show is a great example of everything that's wrong with society. You have an almost 300 lb. woman raising a hateful little pig of a child that doesn't understand the importance of manners. We live in a society where obesity is frowned upon and yet this show glorifies it. As a result of watching this fucking show you got people that don't understand if being an ill mannered porker is a good thing.

I say boycott this fucking show, boycott TLC and let's do away with the Honey Boo Boo deal. Someone please bring back good television, let's get Remote Control on the air again. Fuck you Honey Boo Boo, and your ugly mom too.

YOU JUST NEVER REALLY KNOW

A long time ago in a black and white galaxy far away a man by the name of Edward R. Murrow was introducing the world to his new and revolutionary show known as Person to Person. The show made Edward R. Murrow the first real celebrity interviewer and added to his already polarizing legend. The show itself employed remote interviews, which at the time were quite rare. It has been nearly 60 years since person to person first aired and now we have social media to give us our own person to person moments with people we don't really know.

With the advent of Twitter, Skype, Facebook, and many others we seem to have the ability for that person to person feel. The truth is that just like the days of Murrow's show we are living in a time when no matter how open we seem to be there are still secrets that lurk deeply in the closet. In a way the show Person to Person laid the groundwork for social media. The show was proof positive that distance between points could be closed. Murrow interviewed everyone from Fidel Castro to JFK to Marilyn Monroe. Today, nearly six decades later, we seem to feel closer to celebrities, leaders, and groups.

While the secrets that we keep only manage to come out either post mortem or in some dramatic way there is something to be said for the fact that social media was a seedling for so long. Perhaps it's a stretch to connect Murrow to social media but if you really study it there is some sense to that. Murrow was on to something and while it may have long been relegated to the status of a valuable relic it's fair to say it had a serious impact. Next time you see something new don't be surprised if it's what manages to spur a big revolution.

OKAY SO YOU'RE RETIRING, GOOD FOR YOU

I like Barbara Walters because I think she is a great example of a pioneer. Barbara Walters has been a major part of the broadcast landscape for the last five decades and over those five decades she has also become a symbol of American excellence. Throughout her career she has interviewed world leaders, movie stars, rock stars and everyone in between. There is no doubting the contributions of Barbara Walters to the world of broadcasting. When you think about it 20/20 was the Ferrari of magazine shows.

I still think it's a tad bit self serving to start the countdown clock and create a self portrait of sorts. Everyone knows Barbara Walters is a legend that has accomplished what few if any individuals have. Barbara Walters has managed to stay current and on top of the game even though she is 83 years of age. I still think that making the announcement over a year ahead of time is like saying " everyone prepare yourselves please." I would have rather seen the announcement delivered in the form of a press release or perhaps something more significant than that ridiculous daytime show.

I will miss Barbara Walters because for well over twenty five years I have seen her interviews. Barbara Walters made ABC destination television even when ABC was so far behind in the ratings that a safe distance was considered one million light years behind FOX. There will never be another Barbara Walters but then again there will never be another Bozo either, okay bad comparison.

FROM THE MOUTH OF AN ASSHOLE

I respect anyone that can make a great career at an early stage. Brian Stelter is one of those guys that commands that sort of respect. This asshole stops commanding respect when he feels that he has enough clout as a journalist to say that Ann Curry was not good at her job as co host of NBC's Today Show. The fact that this guy covered the show extensively does not make him the end all be all on the subject. I think what pisses me off the most is that he says this with a hint of arrogance. Brian Stelter is no doubt someone with a great future and he will likely do many amazing things but what dues has he paid?

Ann Curry is a veteran with over 35 years experience in broadcasting, what does Brian Stelter have? Okay he is moving up but he could find himself as the next Matt Drudge, in some sort of obscurity. This guy wants to speak as if he had all the answers with regards to NBC's death in the ratings. So if this guy knows so much maybe he can write a book on why NBC is getting killed in primetime. Maybe Brian can also write a sequel to The Late Shift that explains why Jay Leno went from being likable to being the biggest piece of shit in the history of late night.

Ann Curry was not given the time or the opportunity to turn her fortunes around. Jay Leno was given 17 years on late night and the opportunity to almost destroy Conan O'Brien by contrast. I will grant the fact that late night and day time are total opposites but the fact is that NBC operates poorly and plays favorites. Now back to Brian, the guy is an asshole and a know it all. Brian why don't you help NBC crawl out of its shit hole since you know so much.

THE WHORE IS TIRED

So Dr. Drew has decided to stop doing celebrity rehab because he is tired of taking heat for the deaths. This is another way for that piece of shit to get attention and make himself a martyr. I don't think anyone with a brain cell would accuse him of being guilty. Anyone that knows anything will accuse him of being what he is and that is a whore. I am sure there is a big question as to why I call him that. I cal him a whore because as a therapist he should know that addiction is a private issue that should be solved as such and not in front of millions of people.

Rehabilitation is a process that can take months ad sometimes years and while there are people that never pull through there are those that do. For a celebrity to appear on television after years of being ignored is like a ray of light. When a celebrity sees that glimmer they assume that their past appeal and faded charms may become bright enough to get them back in the "game." This is the problem with a rehab show, the celebrity is exposing why he or she became a serious liability in the first place. No one that views those shows looks at those celebrities as anything more than poor, and very pathetic souls.

Dr. Drew says that he helped a lot of people and that may be but the fact remains he is smart enough to have known that this type of show would do more harm than good. Just because an addict decides to clean up for the cameras doesn't mean that he or she is ready to go back to whatever position they squandered. This type of show is what's wrong with society today. Dr. Drew knew people were not watching in hopes that Jeff Conaway would go back to being the guy he was in Taxi, Grease, or even Babylon 5. This guy is talking about his motives being questioned and he should understand that the questions come from his being a total sellout for some TV time to prove his "qualifications."

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER CARSON

When you think of The Tonight Show in terms of its legend you think of everything from Steve Allen to Jack Paar's classic interviews but the only real legend of the the show was Johnny Carson whose 30 year tenure made him the late night measuring stick for generations to come. If you look at the history of the show for the last 20 years you are looking at a late night soap opera. Since Carson made his shocking retirement announcement in 1991 the show has been at the center of some serious controversy.

The first firestorm started when Carson made his announcement setting the stage for a major war between the rightful heir and Carson favorite David Letterman and guest host extraordinaire Jay Leno. Just about everyone initially maligned Carson when truthfully it was the Jay Leno's agent putting pressure on Carson to leave and on NBC to chose Leno. Things on the show only got worst as time passed because of declining ratings, Letterman's move to CBS in the same time slot and Jay Leno's intense agent almost causing dead air during the 1992 elections. After Hugh Grant's Divine Brown bonanza in 1995 the show took a turn of dominance that lasted 14 years.

The 2009 exit of Jay Leno paved the way for low ratings, Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno's failed primetime show and a comeback that made Leno the asshole of the 21st century. For the last few months they have talked about Jimmy Fallon becoming Leno's replacement and Leno has begun lobbing bombs at NBC in order to defend his spot. This is why there will never be another Carson.

Jay Leno has done to other people what David Letterman did not do to him. David Letterman was offered the show if Leno failed to turn ratings around during an 18 month period. David Letterman did not do that Jay Leno but Leno did it to O'Brien after 8 months and his own inability to provide NBC with the ratings he provided during his 17 years as Carson's replacement. Johnny Carson was going to leave the show in 1979 and was courted to stay by being allowed ownership of the show and the control over Letterman's show which his company produced.

Jay Leno will never come close to Carson, Conan could not do it and Jimmy Fallon can only dream of that zip code. Face it, there will never ever be another Carson.

KATE PLUS WHORE MAKES ME BORED

I really dislike Kate Gosselin a lot in fact I dislike her as much as I dislike actual shit. To me Kate Gosselin is a false and extremely annoying woman that cashed in on her kids in the most annoying way. I was never a fan of John and Kate plus 8 and I did not think much of her participation in other series that shall go without mention. There is one person that I dislike as much as her and that person is Kendra Wilkinson.

Kendra Wilkinson became famous for being one of the three girlfriends of the Social Security Office's favorite bachelor Mr. Hugh Hefner also known as a ridiculous old man that thinks he still has some sort of game. Kate and Kendra have come together in order to take part in an episode of ABC'S train wreck known as Celebrity Wife Swap. 

I find it annoying that a couple of idiots with nothing to provide society are actually being given any sort of attention. I find this to be a part of America's problem at least on the entertainment front. Every time some talentless whore or hack comes along that person gets put in a television series documenting their uninteresting and overly rehearsed lives. I am assuming that this episode will have the light, dramatic and conciliatory tone that every episode has.

In the end this will be just another annoying episode that no one cares about and that when watched will represent lost time in someone's life.

THE NEW GEORGE BURNS IS: BETTY WHITE!

Every decade there is a comedian that stands out because he or she manages to beat the clock through laughter. The cool elder statesman of the 1970's was Jack Benny and after him came George Burns. Burns rejuvenated his career in the 1970's after his performance in The Sunshine Boys which garnered him an Academy Award and a legion of new followers that saw him move on to performances in Oh God among other films as well as as the release of a country album. I think that the long lasting nature of these comedians is due to their ability to make people laugh.

The new elder of comedy is Betty White, whose double entendres and grand dame demeanor make her one of America's treasures. What's amazing about how these comedians get to that point is the fact that they creep up like cotton headed ninjas full of energy and youth. Slowly but surely these comedians show why they stand the test of time. Betty White makes up material using current trends like Facebook and vaginas. You have to admire someone that at 91 years of age can make a younger generation crave her work.

Lasting long and staying fresh is a testament to the healing power of laughter but it goes deeper than that. People like Betty White have a quality that draws others, it's the humor and the subtle nature of its delivery. I think it's only proper to say thank you to Betty White as well as her predecessors because without them the world would be a rather dreary place and we would not have certain beacons that remind us of the fact that aging is only a physical necessity.  

ONE LAST TIME JR

Dallas will never be the same now that JR is gone. It's easy to speculate that the new series may not survive now that the soul of the Dallas core died. The 10 gallon hat, the neckerchief, the Rolex with the custom made strap, and the boots will stay in one corner casting an impossible shadow.

As a fan of the series I would love to see how they will kill of good ol' JR. With the incredibly powerful Cliff Barnes perhaps it would be approrpiate to give JR's biggest nemesis his first victory Maybe JR fell victim to a plane crash arranged by Cliff in his attempt to destroy the Ewings. Perhaps JR was killed by an old nemesis such as Westar Oil's disgraced former CEO Jeremy Wendell. I think it would be nice to see him go out in one last battle.

I am sure it's all going to depend on the direction the new episodes are headed and what they were doing in terms of the story focusing on the newer characters. JR Ewing is a character that will never be topped, replaced, forgotten, or ignored. JR is a part of America's fabric and as such he should leave as he came in and that is with grand style and incomparable

ANGUS PLEASE THINK TWICE

I think it's great that people find their religion and decide that from that point forward they are going to do what is right for them. What I have a major problem with is when a tool without appeal decides he is going to become America's moral conscience. My reason for this statement is Angus T. Jones' sudden decision to shove his foot up the ass that feeds him.

Angus T. Jones is a lot like a cancerous cell, you know it's there and to some extent you tolerate it but you want it gone as soon as possible. Yes the title of the show he is a part of is Two and a Half Men but truthfully he was never really what made people tune in to the show. The real reason why that show was a massive hit was Charlie Sheen.

Just about everyone thought of Angus as that kind ridiculous add on that did not have a major purpose in the series. Somehow that ugly little porker became a large awkward piece of flesh that as of now takes home $8,000,000 per year and sits in some church couch saying the show is filth. The boy must have had four loco because he sounds like a dam idiot.

I wonder if the congregation Angus is a part of has requested a donation for the newest building or "temple of worship"? Hey idiot when your other testicle drops see if you can go from being the half man to the smart man.
