SOME WORDS ON THE RACHEL THING
Honestly I try to avoid certain subjects because they tend to be lightning rods for controversy and I think life's too short for bullshit, but still some things I just have to comment on. Rachel Dolezal has been on the radar because she essentially lied about her race and as a result it's led to a discussion on identification, race, and so on. In her latest interview, with Matt Lauer she said that she identifies as black. Okay let me tell you why I have a problem with this.
There is a huge difference between identifying with something and actually being it. You can identify with whatever you want but that doesn't change what you, or who you are at your very core. The fact is that she is not black she is a caucasian woman, end of story. She spoke in her interview about the "black experience" and I'm wondering what the hell that means. Let's put a focus on that for a sec, blacks were enslaved for hundreds of years, seen as less, treated unfairly, discriminated against and made to fight for their basic human rights, is this the "experience" she is referring to? Perhaps someone can explain to me how she was a part of that experience in her middle class upbringing.
In her interview with Lauer she stated that she as a little girl would draw picture of herself with a brown crayon. Does using a brown crayon qualify a person as being black? I drew self portraits with a red crayon but it doesn't make me Satan. I find her bullshit offensive because I have studied enough about civil rights struggles to know that this kind of move is, unwittingly or not, a huge slap to the face of every protester that was made to suffer major indignities during the Jim Crow era.
Let's put it in perspective, she identifies as black and feels that she has to lie about her race, she even claimed that an African American gentleman was her father. So does this mean she thinks she can make a difference in race relations by lying? It's clear Rachel doesn't know a whole hell of a lot. John Brown was a white man that was willing to take up arms in the 1800's in order to abolish slavery. Brown was influenced by black abolitionists such as Frederick Douglas and Soujourner Truth. John Brown did not identify as black, Brown did have a belief in freedom.
My point: RACHEL YOU ARE WHITE, MUCH LIKE YOU WHERE WHEN YOU SUED HOWARD UNIVERSITY AS A WHITE WOMAN FOR RACE DISCRIMINATION.

KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE PEOPLE
So there is a big huge deal about the clown that wore the Obama mask in a rodeo. I can sort of understand how this would be disrespectful to the president but I think taking into race waters can be a stretch. This is what I think with respect to that, let's keep it in perspective. Not everyone in America is a democrat and not everyone voted for Obama. Obama's presidency has not been that effective, just like Bush's presidency nearly bankrupted the US.
The best chance that democrats had to pass comprehensive reform was with the senatorial super majority and that was wasted. The election was very narrow and it demonstrated that Romney and Obama were weighed as two necessary ills with one being the lesser of two evils. I understand that the whole " Who wants to see a bull run Obama down?" question was over the top but still, that's the way it goes.
The very normal voting majority is never very happy about how the country is run. Now unemployment is very high, housing values are down, and medical reform is questionable and never fully enforced. I am a democrat but I see this as the perspective of a very unhappy group of people. I don't see this as racism and neither should anyone else. Let' not take politics to black vs white in situations that don't call for it.

YOU MISS ME? LET'S GET TO STIRRING THE POT
Hello true believers my name is not Stan Lee. I am writing this entry because as I sit and listen to the radio it's nearly impossible to go a minute without hearing something about George Zimmerman. I like to think of George Zimmerman as the hero of the unbelievably ignorant. I don't know what happened that day he killed Trayvon Martin, but I know what could have been avoided. Let's forget about the stand your ground bullshit for about three seconds and let's apply the common sense law.
Common sense dictates that if someone tells you not to follow, let alone engage, someone you suspect may be an assailant then you don't do it. The doughboy broke that key rule and decided to follow a kid, and why? I guess the kid's hoodie was incredibly threatening. The fact is that Zimmerman was like the Seth Rogen character in that movie that I can't quite remember, the main character was a disturbed mall cop.
What it boils down to is a fucking imbecile, self appointed neighborhood watch captain that just happened to be a police force reject, wanted to be a hero. This is the kind of fucking idiot that's allowed to carry a gun. Anyone that tells me that this guy was right to do what he did is as stupid as this idiot. Did Trayvon Martin break into a house? Were other people afraid of Trayvon and calling on Sergeant Puffy Cheeks to save them? Are skittles considered a weapon of some sort? I'm sure that 911 call where the neighbor gave a play by play of Trayvon begging for his life is an clear indication that this fat fuck could have just as easily walked away.
This guy has to pay for his crime and his crime was taking a life. Let's take race out of the equation for a second, even though he was heard saying the N word on a 911 call, the one where he was told not to follow Trayvon. If you are not an officer of the law and you are not being immediately threatened, you have no business following someone you suspect. This guy did what he did after he was told that he should not follow the kid. This whole thing could have been avoided if he would have listened to what he was told. If this guy gets out on some technicality it will prove that ignorance and stupidity are definitely a disease for the masses.

RACIST RABBITS!
I saw a news story about a California family that is suing Disney because the person playing the Rabbit character was behaving in a manner that could be considered racist. The person did not want to hug their kids, who are African American, and was hugging white kids. When I first saw the headline I wondered if this was for real simply because Disney is supposed to be the place where everyone is equal. I know that Disney can't really tell if a person is racist or not but their attitude has been that of a company backing the racist rabbit.
I think Disney with its abysmal track record for subliminal and sexually suggestive animation as well as racial undertones in film really needs to work its way out of this one. According to the news story Disney has attempted to get the African American family to sign a waiver in exchange for tickets. Disney always seems to want to cure everything with tickets and Mickey Mouse watches.
At the end of the day Disney should more carefully screen its people because although you can't always tell who's racist and who isn't you can get some sort of idea. If the person in the costume did not want to hug the kids because they were black and in front of them hugged white kids then that person is racist. I can understand the family wanting to sue on principle because this type of bullshit cannot be covered up.
I wish the family the best of luck making rabbit stew.
